Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen has set the fastest time on the morning of the second day of testing in Barcelona. The young Dutchman did a 1:23.267 on the soft tyres. McLaren test driver Stoffel Vandoorne holds second place with a 1:24.006. One red flag so far today, as the marshals needed to clear the track after Jordan King went off in turn 7 and took some gravel with hem when he returned on the asphalt.

This isnt exactly quali pace laps, but I still wonder how McLaren can be so far up during sessions like these? Are they running more aggressive settings than the rest of the teams?

You can play with ballast, tyre pressures and obviously fuel levels, all of these need not even be within the normal regs. You can test whatever configurations you want. Williams are doing it with that radical rear wing, it's not race worthy but for learning purposes for 2017 regs

Yeah maybe thats why. It'll be interesting to see how Williams will perform next year.
