Mercedes head of motorsport Toto Wolff has revealed that the team is planning an aero upgrade for the British Grand Prix in an attempt to stave off ever-increasing pressure from rivals Ferrari and Red Bull.
While Mercedes lead both the driver's and constructor's championships and have won all but one race all season, the Anglo-German team has faced increased competition from Ferrari and Red Bull in recent events and is hoping the upgrade will allow them to maintain their position at the head of the field.
"We will push hard, we will have an aero upgrade probably ready for the British Grand Prix and on engine-wise everybody is really working hard in order to bring performance," said Wolff. "It's necessary."
Wolff is aware of the pressure his team face after Red Bull took pole position in Monaco and Ferrari missing out in Canada by two tenths, while both teams have been closer in race trim.
"If you see the long-term development slope of Ferrari is that they are getting better every race and they have had some bad luck at the beginning of the season," he said. "But this weekend again you could see that the Ferrari is capable of winning races."

They will just have another illegal development that conveniently passes FIA tests but break the spirit of the rules in every way possible with key people at all the right places to not take any action against them.
