Lewis Hamilton visited race director Charlie Whiting after qualifying to question the legality of team mate Nico Rosberg's pole position lap.
Rosberg set a session best time through a sector displaying double waved yellow flags and Hamilton went to the FIA to seek clarification of the rules.
However, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff was okay with what Hamilton did, despite going against his team mate.
"It's good Lewis enquires about that because it's a lot of rules, and maybe what we should try to achieve is to simplify the rules and make them less [complicated]," he said. "So I was okay with what happened."
He also insisted that Rosberg did nothing wrong.
"The rules are the rules and they are very clear," said Wolff. "Nico complied 100% with the rules. He gave it a big lift under yellow and that is enough. Full stop.
Hamilton's visit to the stewards reportedly came before they had announced that Rosberg was under investigation, but thee three-time champion believes he didn't influence their decision.
"I don't believe that I influenced the stewards' enquiry," he said.
