Sergio Perez says his plans for the 2017 season are not quite ready to be revealed. On Saturday, British television announced at Monza that the Mexican will definitely be staying at Force India next year rather than switching to Renault or Williams.

But official confirmation did not follow.

"What I know is that what happens is what I always wanted," Perez is quoted by the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

But, when he was asked after qualifying at Monza if the rumours are true, he added: "Officially nothing is confirmed, but I hope soon to announce everything."

Asked if that means he is staying with Force India, Perez answered: "I see no reason to change, but in this business you never know."

It is believed Lance Stroll, the son of Canadian fashion billionaire Lawrence Stroll, is now in pole for the Williams seat with up to $35m of backing in tow.

  • Too much hype for a Mclaren reject, no top team is going to take him again, he had his chance at a top team and he just wasn't good enough.

    • Yeah, he had his chance, but he is a lot better now compared to back then, so I dont know. I do however not think he'll be in the running for a Ferrari or Mercedes seat.

    • Seems to me Hulkenberg is hella demotivated. When he showed what he can do he was turned down for height and weight reasons by top teams. Now when that isn't a big issue anymore all the competitive seats are tried up for multiple years with other star drivers. There is no fun to try and best some also-ran like Perez day in and day out if you cant get into places where you can fight for wins after a number of years trying to show what you can do.

When you are not in a battle with equals some tend to lose interest to do more. Mediocrity rubs off I guess?
