The Red Bull of Max Verstappen finished the first practice session at Singapore in first place after he set a 1 minute 45.823.
Verstappen's lap was half a tenth faster than his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo who was second ahead of the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel who was four tenths behind him.
Lewis Hamilton was fourth ahead of his team-mate Nico Rosberg by just under a tenth. Rosberg had a unwelcome conclusion to his session when he ran into the barrier at turn 18, however he was able to return to the pits. The two Mercedes' fastest laps were set on the hardest compound available this weekend.
Carlos Sainz finished in an impressive sixth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari by two and a half seconds. Behind Raikkonen was Sainz' team-mate Daniil Kvyat. Rounding out the top 10 was Felipe Massa in ninth and Esteban Gutierrez in tenth.
