Despite retiring from his final Formula One race, Jenson Button says that he is the happiest man on the planet.

Button clipped a kerb at turn nine on lap 12 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, resulting in a suspension failure.

The Briton caps off a 17-year carer in F1 meaning that next year will be the first since 1999 that he hasn't been on the grid.

"I'm the happiest man on the planet! While you guys have been watching cars go in circles I've been living life," he said after the race. "The crazy thing is that's my first car failure in like 7 years! The failure meant I could have a private moment, it was very special."

Button is expected to compete part-time in Red Bull Global Rallycross and Japanese Super GT next year.

  • A pity he couldnt finish the race, and a pity he decided to retire, but best of luck to him!

Agreed. It was a shame the car let him down. The good thing is that he got to have his own moment, when exiting the car, but I prefer to see a great sportsman end his career on a high. I am sure we will see more of him. I'd love to see him participate in Le Mans, but seeing him race in Rallycross would also be nice (harder to find a stream though).

    • Yeah, I really hope we will see more of him. Sounds like he is interested in alot of different series, so we'll have to see. Yup, but livetv.sx have some Rallycross streams every now and then.

Looks like he forgot about Nico, who seemed to enjoy himself quite a lot as well. But with a bit of luck we'll see him again, albeit probably in different classes. Le Mans, maybe?
