Formula One's new owners Liberty Media are considering a major change to race weekends.

Kevin Garside, of the I newspaper has reported that two-day weekends ware being considered.

The shake up would see Fridays axed from the schedule and a second, shorter race added to the bill on Saturdays.

Budget caps and the ever-present promise of more races in the US are also being discussed.

"It's all doable," an unnamed F1 team figure said. "There is scope to do something different on race weekends.

"From a team point of view, two race days makes sense, though at the moment contracts with promoters make provision for cars on track over three days, so any change would have to take account of that," the figure added.

However, there is already resistance to the idea of budget caps, set to begin at €150 million, with some teams insisting they'd be impossible to police

But Toro Rosso chief Franz Tost disagrees.

"That is nonsense," he said.

"At Toro Rosso, I know how much each screw costs," he told Tiroler Tageszeitung newspaper.

"If someone was refusing to show their expenses for a part, then the FIA could simply set the price at double the price of the average of the other teams. You would see that the invoices would flow," Tost added.

  • If they have a weight system like BTCC, this would be easier, in the end we are moving to an era where fans want parity and close racing, the days of one team running away with it are over, there needs to be a show, and a show means, same performance and loads of wheel to wheel.

  • Not sure if I like the thought of 2 race weekends, I dont think that bit needs changing TBH. And I dont think a second U.S GP should be prioritized over e.g a race in Argentina, a country with huge followings yet no race venue, or even a return to India should they want to host races again. A budget cap could be a good idea.
