Two time world champion Fernando Alonso believes that the Senna/Prost era of Formula One was boring, and that the sport reached its peak in the 2000's.
The Spaniard reckons the championship battles of the 80's are looked back on too generously.
"Formula One at that time, it was very boring," he said of the Senna/Prost era.
"If you see a race now from '85, '88 or '92, you will sleep through the race because it was two McLarens, the fourth guy was lapped and there was 25 seconds between each car.
"There were 10 cars DNF because the reliability was so-so.
"Television figures, spectators are going down [now], like it was in these boring years in the '80's where Senna, Prost and these people were saving fuel, saving tyres and things like that, so it's exactly the same boring as it was at that time."
He continued to talk about how the sport blossomed in the 2000's.
"I think Formula One grew up a lot," Alonso said, speaking about that era.
"A lot of manufacturers came into Formula One in the 2000's - BMW, Toyota, and there were many people coming.
"Television figures and the spectators were at the maximum.
"We opened Formula 1 to new countries - we raced in Korea, we raced in India, we raced in Singapore, two races in Spain - and that was the maximum.
"And we didn't understand that situation, probably. The costs were very high, technology was very high, some manufacturers pulled out."
Another point that he made was how drivers are only assessed after they retire, and they don't get their praise when they are racing.
"When you stop racing you transform into an idol, when you are racing you are criticised," he said.
"When you stop racing you are fantastic, it happened with Felipe [Massa], with [Mark] Webber.
"The people of the '80s - they're great champions, they are idols. And now in this generation [Lewis] Hamilton, [Sebastian] Vettel, they will be idols for the kids in go-karts now."

One the most thrilling eras in F1 is boring to Alonso... LMAO high time he retired. He was good enough in 2005-2006, can still kick losers like buthurtboy hamilton in the gonads if given the chance. However the reality is F1 standards have been down since well before Alonso's time and Alonso hasn't raised it one bit. He is just jealous he hasn't proven to be that good as he thought he was. And that isn't saying much about the rest of the F1 grid.

No it's not about Hamilton you presumptuous child sized bag of water. It's about you being an extremely sad little boy continuously posting nonsense here.

Actually your posts don't amount to anything, that in itself is rather sad. The fact that you take the time to log in to this site means there might still be hope.

Im not sure if it was boring, the few races I've seen looked fun, but I do think we have some equally fun races now. if Im honest, 2012 and 2016 were pretty good seasons, although I wish we'd have more teams challenging for wins in 2016.

Alonso's talking about the whole era though not just a few races. If we go by that filter there have been atleast 1 race that was not a snoozefest pretty much every year?
