It has been suggested that Pascal Wehrlein could be forced to miss the opening pre-season test in Barcelona due to a recurring neck injury he sustained at the recent Race of Champions in Miami.
A spectacular collision with fellow competitor Felipe Massa ended with Wehrlein's car resting on its side against the barrier. The German was able to walk away, but he was ruled out of the event's second day on medical grounds when his injury was discovered. It has now been reported that only FIA approval will allow Wehrlein to participate in the first test with his new Sauber team, beginning on 27 February.
Very little has been confirmed about the situation at this point, but a statement has been posted by Sauber on its Twitter page in response.
