McLaren has now confirmed the departure of Jost Capito. Just four months after he started work, it emerged before Christmas that the 58-year-old German - who had left VW to be McLaren's new CEO - was in fact now leaving McLaren. The news came amid a period of upheaval for the beleaguered British team, whose supremo Ron Dennis was ousted at the end of a bitter shareholders dispute.
Indeed, it has emerged that McLaren will drop the iconic "MP4" - which for decades had referred to Dennis' 'Project 4' organisation - from its car name for 2017. And now, Italy's Corriere della Sera confirms that Capito has in fact left the team.
A team spokesman told GMM: "Regrettably, we have not been able to find common ground with Jost with regard to what is and will be needed to make the team successful again. As a result, we have agreed that he will leave McLaren Racing and will now consider other opportunities. We wish him success in his future endeavours." (GMM)

F*8k this team, it's not Mclaren anymore. Soon to be another backmarker junk. Alonso to retire at the end of 2017 if he cant get that Mercedes seat. He is definitely not at Mclaren for 2018, I'll bet top money on that if I could somewhere.

It was in line with expectations.. but still.. unbelievable. He was probably the most experienced guy left at McLaren, after Dennis his departure. It was a big signing to get him from Volkswagen. I am trying to stay optimistic about the team's chances, but I can't deny that it looks like they are digging their own grave.

Agreed, this does certainly not bode well. It was bad enough when they started to lose big sponsor names, but now they lose important people aswell. This year needs to be good for the team...

Haha - so, the team commit the heinous act of changing the names of their cars, then chin off somebody who always seemed pretty much surplus to requirements, and now they've gone to the dogs?
The last few years Maccer have been backmarkers. They need radical change, maybe now they've got owners with the stones to actually do something about their plight.

McLaren is full of racers, unfortunately not winners, let alone champs now.

I have been a McLaren fan for much longer than I care to disclose. It seems to me that in the recent declining years, individuals have surfaced to be too self important and opinionated than is good for the team. This is a team with many many workers, passionate about what they do, from the drivers through the whole of the technical staff to the designers and receptionists. Lets hope that now there is a management structure that can devote their efforts to encouraging the team to achieve greatness in every area. Then sponsors will form a nice orderly queue, cheque books waved in anticipation. There are enough talented individuals to rise to the top now lets see them perform as a team.
