Carey in Turkey discussing return to Istanbul Park

The Turkish Grand Prix has been off the Formula 1 calendar since 2011, much to the disappointment of fans who hail it as one of the best race tracks produced in modern times.

However, the future could be bright for the event, as Chase Carey, new CEO of F1, is reportedly present in Turkey to discuss an option for a return to the track in the future. He is meeting President Recep Erdogan to see if there is any chance the race could reoccur in the coming seasons.

Since Liberty Media's acquisition of Formula 1 in January, they have outlined that they plan to add more events to a Formula 1 season, with Long Beach emerging as a serious possibility in the last couple of weeks.

The race in Istanbul Park was dropped after seven years due to poor promotion. There was a major lack of public interest, plus the fans who did decide to show up created major traffic jams which disrupted civilians and out-goers. 

The track has five different winners, with Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen and Jenson Button all winning once, while Felipe Massa took the chequered flag for three consecutive years while racing for Ferrari.
