Three-time world champion Jackie Stewart has tipped Sebastian Vettel to claim his fifth world title this season. Vettel currently leads the driver standings after six rounds of the world championship, followed by his main championship rival, Lewis Hamilton.

The new 2017 regulations have seen a leap in performance from Ferrari, who have struggled to produce a race winning car in more recent years. So far, they have won 50% of the races in 2017, with Mercedes coming out on top in the other half.

Stewart, who won his last title in 1973, has tipped the German to come out on top: "Sebastian has more experience and is calmer than Lewis. It will be difficult for Lewis to turn it around because Vettel is so hungry to succeed again."

Former F1 driver Marc Surer agrees with Stewart, adding that Vettel thrives in a competitive car: "Vettel is someone who is discouraged by a bad car, but when he has a good car, he is incredible. Also, with his family-driven lifestyle, he has fewer fluctuations than Hamilton."

  • Something has to change significantly a Ferrari or Mercedes for the outcome to change. So far it has been clear advantage Ferrari (and Vettel). I do hope the championship gets more interesting. So far, with one minor exception, it has been a proxy war instead of real fighting on track. Reliability, bad strategy calls, etc... always conspire to make races less interesting.
