Kimi Raikkonen topped the timesheets in the second practice session in Montreal with a best lap time of 1:12.935. The Finn had a much smoother session than the one this morning, keeping his Ferrari pointing in the right direction throughout.

The track proved highly tricky for the drivers, much like it did in the first session of the day. While a lot of the dust had cleared from the surface from this morning, there was a number of spinners throughout the session, meaning tyre pressures could be dropped before tomorrow's sessions.

Lewis Hamilton was P2, following the 2007 world champion by just over two-tenths of a second. He was just ahead by his main championship rival Sebastian Vettel, who was one of those who did in fact spin, as was Bottas in the other Mercedes, who completed the top four.

Trouble for Red Bull

While Max Verstappen's time of 1:13.388 was relatively strong, the Dutchman was deeply unhappy throughout the session and was often heard complaining on the radio. His day was made much worse with 20 minutes to go as his car cut out, causing him to park up and bring out a red flag. Daniel Ricciardo's day was not much better, as the Australian was also forced to end his day early with a car issue.

Felipe Massa stuck in a strong session to end up in sixth, ahead of both Force India's of Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez who completed the session in eighth and tenth respectively. Fernando Alonso set a late flyer to go P7, while Daniil Kvyat ended his Friday practice in ninth.

  • Whatever Ferrari did to Kimi, they should have done it much earlier.
