The Haas F1 Team will be testing Carbon Industrie brakes in practice this weekend at the British Grand Prix following continuing braking issues that have plagued Romain Grosjean since the team joined Formula 1 back in 2016.

Haas previously tested Carbon Industrie brakes at the Russian Grand Prix earlier this year, however, switched back to using Brembo brakes due to cooling issues, and have continued to use them since the fourth round of the 2017 Season.

“We have a plan to fit the cars with Carbon Industrie brakes on Friday – both cars in FP1 and, hopefully, FP2 – to see if it all works on our second attempt,” said team principal, Guenther Steiner. “If it all works, we will use them over the weekend, but we can only commit to that after we’ve had one practice.”

Steiner also confirmed that the team have also made some aerodynamic changes in an attempt to improve brake cooling:  “The aerodynamics team did a lot of CFD work and then we had to modify the brake discs according to what we found using CFD,” he said.

Haas F1 currently lie in seventh place in the Constructors' Championship in 2017, overtaking Renault following a sixth place finish for Romain Grosjean at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend - the team's highest finish of 2017 so far. This weekend, Antonio Giovinazzi is set to make his first appearance for the American outfit where he will drive in FP1 instead of Kevin Magnussen.

  • Didn't they already test them and they found them to not work well?

    • Yes they did, but maybe its a new compound for the brake disks?

Yes and no. Like Steiner is referring to, they required more cooling it would seem, and they were unaware of that when they tested them the last time. Hopefully that has been sorted this time around
