Daniil Kvyat says that his future will be rectified very soon, as the Russian looks set to be retained by the Red Bull programme. Kvyat races for Toro Rosso, the Red Bull junior team he made his debut with in 2014. He was promoted to the senior team for the 2015 season but was replaced by Max Verstappen following the Russian Grand Prix in 2016.

While his 2017 seat was in heavy doubt, the team decided to retain him and now look set to do the same for next season. Also yet to be confirmed is the future of his teammate Carlos Sainz, but Kvyat is confident that an announcement will be made soon confirming his own stay at the team.

"Honestly, we're not far from the point where we learn all about 2018," Kvyat admitted in Hungary. "If it happens before the summer break that's good, but if it's longer, I also do not worry. Yes, there is a date in my contract by which the management must make a decision about the extension, but I also have good relations with Red Bull and they always try to inform me of the decision as soon as possible.

"As I said, we are very close," the 23-year-old added. "As long as I'm in standby mode I can only wait, but I still believe in the team, I want to be part of the project, I'm still very young so I have time. I do not see any reason why I want to leave."

  • He's only young, maybe he came into F1 with too little experience, so is a bit raw in terms of racecraft but I do think he has genuinely good pace

Not sure about him. Letting him go makes sense from my pov he's not going to be at a level of redBull anytime soon. Creating a space for the next talent looks like the likely option.
