Drivers unhappy with the extra weight of the Halo

Amid all the controversy surrounding the Halo, a new issue has formed with it. The weight limit of the cars has been raised in light of its confirmation, meaning all cars will have a minimum weight limit of 733kg for 2018, in a time where weight is trying to be decreased.
Speaking of the Halo Lewis Hamilton admits that its safety benefits can't be ignored, but isn't happy about the weight limit: "You cannot ignore Halo if it improves safety by 17 per cent. It just doesn't look good and the extra weight isn't good either."
Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas also made comments on the device. Bottas is one of the drivers who supports the FIA's controversial decision to implement the Halo onto the cars but is also worried about the extra weight it will bring.
"I don't think Halo will hurt Formula 1," said the Finn to Auto Bild. "It is a safety improvement like so many others in the history of the sport, which is good for us drivers. The only drawback is the extra weight, because the heavier the cars are, the less exciting they are."

There is really only two major drawbacks to the Halo: the looks and the weight. One will affect the viewers, the other will affect the driver. The weight, without proper consideration in the regulations, is really the only one that'll affect the actual show negatively.

No, but it is enough to affect how the cars handle, and how much the drivers will need to diet. I think it was 2015 in which many drivers where basically nothing but skin and bone. We cant have that with the current regulations, which require better all around strength compared to the old regulations.

The Halo may be many things but it's not rubbish by any means. It's a compromise solution that nobody really wants yet no-one wants drivers to be a coconut shy when the cr*p hits the fan either least of all the drivers, and especially their families.

Never mind the drivers, the engineers will hate it! I have money on a team turning it into some kind of advantage though. That's F1.
