Sergio Perez is the latest driver to be handed a grid penalty before the Italian Grand Prix after Force India decided to change his gearbox. The Mexican qualified in eleventh place on Saturday but was set to start in eighth place due to penalties for other drivers.

Perez is now the ninth driver to suffer from a grid penalty this weekend, and due to the lengthy list of drivers with penalties, he will line up in tenth place later today despite taking a penalty worth five positions on the grid.

There is growing unrest from many fans over penalties this weekend, as Lewis Hamilton will be the only driver to start the race from where he qualified. A number of solutions are being discussed to figure out a better way to deal with teams changing engine parts.

this is shaping up to be the penalty championship.

can we please change the rules next year to an average of one engine per weekend.

    then let them race

    • It was a penalty season to begin with, it was bound to be that way since they decreased the allowed amount of components. 1 full PU per weekend, or even 1 new component per weekend, just isnt realistic, as F1FAN says costs would be more than ridiculous. 6 or even 5 would be more than enough, or at the very least they could allow teams to grab X amounts of certain components, since some components wear more than others that'd still limit component usage but would allow some flexibility.
