Cyril Abiteboul has all but confirmed reports Renault and Red Bull will split after next season. It was rumoured in the Singapore paddock recently that the French supplier has already told the energy drink-owned team that it cannot use Renault power beyond 2018.

Renault boss Abiteboul told the French magazine Auto Hebdo: "Sooner or later, Renault will have to part with Red Bull. But the only thing I can confirm today is that we have a contract with them for 2018." (GMM)

  • But can Renault really deny Red Bull a deal if it comes down to it?

    • It can if it supplies another 3rd team. Perhaps one of those rumoured Chinese teams which are supposedly setting up camp in the UK.

    • But that is only if they find a third partner, and I doubt they will.

  • Can't wait for Horner to complain about Honda on how shit they are. This will be very tasty to watch eating them popcorns!

    • Knowing Alonso's luck, they'll come out of 2018 smelling like roses.

Hoping that Honda builds a monster. Would be great if Redbull can get their hands on a powerunit that rivals merc/Ferrari.

Anyway we will know in 2018. It's wrong that mcLaren and RedBull can't get a good engine. Renault is the 3rd best PU. mcLaren is behind from the start like RedBull is at the moment. If and it's a big IF Honda gets their act together I hope that mcLaren can have access also.
