Reports suggest Kvyat's Austin return could be a one-off

Daniil Kvyat's F1 return this weekend could be fleeting. The Russian was recently stepped down by Toro Rosso team owner Red Bull, making way for the debut of Frenchman Pierre Gasly. But as Gasly heads to Japan this weekend to fight for the Super Formula title, Kvyat is returning to action.
He will be teamed in Austin by Le Mans winner Brendon Hartley, who is replacing the Renault-bound Carlos Sainz. But there are rumours that after Austin, when Gasly returns from Japan, New Zealander Hartley could stay at Toro Rosso for the rest of 2017.
"I do not understand the political games of Formula 1 very well," Boris Shulmeystera, a Russian motor racing promoter, told Championat. "But judging from what is known, I do worry about Daniil," he said. "It is a pity that such a talented driver is first transferred from the senior to the junior team, and from then on his quest for survival began."

Is it really political when Kvyat has only contributed to 7,7% of the teams total points? That stat is even worse than Hülk vs. Palmer. This also shows what a monumental bad call it was to promote Kvyat in the first place, Vergne should have been promoted instead.

This weekend will be very crusial for the Torpedo. If he fails, he's out.

Absolutely agree. I never understood that decision to promote Kvyat so soon with no merit. The fact that he regularly crashes into people and refuses to take responsibility or apologize is just adding insult to injury

Worse than Hulk vs Palmer? No. You have to take into account that Renault didnt get up to speed as fast as Toro Rosso, meaning they didnt score much points earlier, so we cannot se the difference that well in that regard. And Hulk also retired from a few races which he could've scored decent points in.
But at the end of the day, Kvyat hasnt impressed. He is okay at best, but he never deserved a Red Bull drive. Should've stuck Vergne in that car, IMO. He has had his chance.
