Lewis Hamilton emulated his finishing position of the first practice session this morning in Austin, ending the second outing in the afternoon as the fastest man. The three-time world champion's quickest time was a 1:34.688, which was 2.3 seconds faster than his lap time in FP1.

Behind Hamilton was Max Verstappen, who announced today that he has extended his deal with Red Bull to 2020. The Dutchman was over three and a half tenths down on Hamilton's time.

Following Verstappen was the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel, who suffered from a violent spin early in the session. Vettel ended up in the gravel but was able to keep the car running and return to the garage. Valtteri Bottas ended up in fourth place, while fifth and sixth saw Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen.

Trailing the top six drivers was Fernando Alonso in the McLaren-Honda. Felipe Massa, who showed some strong pace in the morning session, ended his day in eighth. The two Force India's rounded out the top ten, with Sergio Perez heading Esteban Ocon.

Carlos Sainz was able to go faster than new teammate Nico Hulkenberg at Renault. The pair were eleventh and twelfth, separated by five-thousandths of a second. Sainz's former teammate Daniil Kvyat followed the Renaults in thirteenth place.

Kevin Magnussen was fourteenth, ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne and Lance Stroll. Debutant Brendon Hartley was seventeenth, while the Saubers of Pascal Wehrlein and Marcus Ericsson followed suit. Rounding out the timesheets was Romain Grosjean.
