F1 looks set to change its official logo for 2018. Since sweeping into the paddock and ousting long-time supremo Bernie Ecclestone, Liberty Media has been making changes. Forbes' business F1 correspondent Christian Sylt said the next forthcoming change is the arrival of former Fox Sports executive David Hill.
And among his touted changes are new television graphics and local virtual advertisements. "We do a professional job today but I think too much of what we do is probably not that different than it was ten years ago, whether that's graphics, sound or camera angles," said new F1 chief executive Chase Carey. "We need to make sure we continue to make sure our product has an innovation and an energy that excites and engages fans."
Another headline change that is on the cards is the replacement of F1's current official logo, which currently features a black F and a 1 drawn out by a red flash. Russia's Sportbox reports that Formula One Licensing BV has now registered three potential black logos to replace it. "It is noted that the logo may change from the Abu Dhabi grand prix," said the report. (GMM)

Changing the logo will only serve one purpose, piss off the loyal fans. That has pretty much always been the case. Nobody will be channel surfing and come across F1 and say "Oh there's that boring F1 again, not gonna watch tha... wait a minute! Is that a new progressive logo, looking like the team logos from Wipeout on PS1? I'm sooo gonna watch that now!"
I haven't been overly impressed with Liberty thus far, and I have a feeling it'll only get worse.
I wouldn't be surprised if people are missing Ecclestone in say 5 years.

Liberty hasnt had much time though mate. Give them time. AFAIK, they've hired many good people to decide on things, and in many ways I think they are heading the right way. Cost cutting and retaining good tracks are certainly good things in my book. Im still careful with how optimistic I am about them, Liberty is a company like any other company, but I've had a decent impression of them so far.

We'll have to wait and see.
I don't agree with cost cutting. That's fine for other series, but not for the pinnacle of motorsport. They should rather focus on making participating in F1 worthwhile. And here I'm talking everything from money to branding, with everything that covers.
Sure you don't have to be stupid and ask the teams to design something as complicated as the current engines, in that sense I agree with cost cutting. But with standardised parts and budget caps, not so much.
From the logos they've trademarked, I am certainly not impressed, and it seems like it's change for the sake of change. That's probably what I'm most worried about - that they will consider any change good, as long as it's not what Bernie was doing.
But it's still early days in their era, and it could still turn out awesome.

Hmmm, interesting, however the logo and the graphics have changed over the years, even the opening credits have changed over the years and personally I think for the better, I would love to have more interaction than just the current app. In the current world of multimedia I believe F1 should be a pioneer just like the technology it represents. And the guys brought in by Liberty Media have made ESPN to be one of the largest most recognizable sports brands in the world. I give them the favour of the doubt, they're not a bunch of f-ing idiots who do not know what they're doing. You can already see the gradual change to get the sport closer to the fans, in the end that is all that matters: the fans. No fans, no sport.

MBMWE36, it depends on where you cut costs. Cutting costs so that we can retain the good tracks? Oh yes. Cutting costs so that we can have more teams on the grid and actually help the smaller teams to be competitive? Yes please. As for standardizing engine parts... Is that even a thing they are considering? I've head a few mentioning it, but I havent really found anything specific on it. What I could see getting standardized is problematic parts like the MGU-H. Do what they did with McLaren's KERS system, and supply it to all teams. Thats were the limit should go.
I honestly dont care too much about the logo, but I think it might be for the best. We've had this logo for how long? It wont affect anything really, but its about time we change it up.

It's what new bosses like to do. Gives them the illusion of getting things done.

I understand why they want to change the logo. As long as it's something good I don't mind. Liberty overall is doing the right things to improve and revitalize the sport. If we lose a few stupid petrol heads who think we should still have V12 and no aero, so be it, as long as we gain a lot more new followers.
