2016 Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg has not ruled out the possibility of taking up a role in motorsport's most prestigious electric series. The German has always expressed interest in Formula E, and has admitted it is something that interests him.

"I know quite a lot [about Formula E], I have been following it. It has an amazing future, a great future," said the 32-year-old. "I’m open to exploring. Let’s see what the possibilities are. But I’m definitely interested."

Rosberg stunned the motor racing world at the end of his championship winning year when he announced that he would be retiring from F1. He stated that if he was going to take up a position in Formula E, it would not involve racing.

"For me it is really done," he replied when questioned if he missed racing. "I’m totally fulfilled and I'm really excited about these new steps that I am doing now. Formula E has hit the nail on the head. The hype is there for e-mobility and that is why there is a guaranteed great future for this.

"People are going to be watching, and this is going to be the technology of the future battling," he said. "It is going to be right here.  Never has there been a racing series where the technology is so one-to-one. It goes from the race car into the road car of the future that we are all going to be driving."

Rosberg praised Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag for the way he has run the sport, asserting that the series has a very bright future: "It has an amazing future, a great future. It is on the right track and Alejandro is awesome as well, so he is going to do the right stuff."

  • I don't think there's been a more irrelevant former WDC in a long time. I quite seriously forgot he won the championship last year. I must say, however, that I did miss him during the second part of the season with Bottas driving like a mediocre Raikkonen
