A Spanish motor racing figure believes Fernando Alonso needs to adjust his attitude if he wants to be successful in formula one once again. It might be argued that Alonso has made three key mistakes in his career: leaving McLaren in 2007, leaving Ferrari in 2014, and joining the ill-fated McLaren-Honda project.
"He became world champion twice, but with the talent he has and that no one doubts, he could have won eight titles," Jaime Alguersuari, father of the former Toro Rosso driver, told the Barcelona newspaper Diario Ara. "For sure, at some point he thought 'I am formula one'."
"Fernando always did everything his way, and when he was wrong, others were always to blame rather than finding the reasons for the mistake within himself," Alguersuari, the former promoter of the Renault World Series, added. "The question is: Is he going to change? I'm not sure he knows how to," he said. (GMM)

I agree he could and should have won more, but I think eight is not realistic, by my guessing I'd say he could have 4-5.

Alonso is my absolute favorite character on a largely charmless grid. For good or for bad Alonso's character has made him win or lose championships. But the same could be said about every other champion. He sort of lost in 2007 with his stupid blocking of Lewis in the pit lane. The Ferrari years well... the fact that he was even fighting for a championship against Red Bull makes him in my eyes one of the absolute greatest of all time. I was more in awe of Alonso than Vettel in those years. Could Alonso have won more championships if he stayed in McLaren a few more years? Absolutely, but that was never going to happen. I agree with the above comment that he could have won 4-5 championships. In my mind he's the greatest driver of his generation. He reminds me a lot of Alain Prost, who also missed a few championships. Hopefully like Prost, Alonso can get a hold of a good car in towards the end of his career.

Just shows that talent alone is not enough. Although he is entertaining for us viewers he seems to be a nightmare for teambosses. He can't go back to Ferrari; Mercedes doesn't want him. That limitation is brought on to him by himself.

Eight titles? No way. Maybe 4.
