Force India has confirmed that it will be changing its name for the 2018 season after months of deliberation. The Silverstone based squad has been intending to drop 'India' from its title in a bid to become more internationally appealing to sponsors.
The favoured name was originally 'Force One', however it had to be scrapped as it was too easy to abbreviate it to 'F1'. Since then, a number of new names have been evaluated, but it is not clear what name it will choose.
"We have always said that we will change our team name," said team COO Otmar Szafnauer to Auto Motor und Sport. "The name will change and the plan is to announce it at the presentation of the new car. But first we have to get that approved by the Formula 1 Commision."
The company has been renamed to 'Force Formula One Team LTD', according to Companies House, a website that lists all registered companies in the United Kingdom.
The VJM11 will be presented in Barcelona on February 25th, one day before pre-season testing gets underway. The team will be targeting another successful season after finishing fourth in the standings for the last two seasons.
