The boss of Formula E says he thinks the all-electric series will eventually overtake F1. Series chief Alejandro Agag took a swipe at F1 after Liberty Media announced this week that grid girls are being banned, declaring "Welcome to the 21st century".
"They are copying many things we do," he smiled to London publication City AM. "But it might be a coincidence." What he says isn't a coincidence is that car manufacturers and sponsors are flocking to the street circuit-based series that is expected to have a much faster car in future years.
"In 20 years' time, I don't see anything bigger than Formula E," Agag said. "Formula E will be the main motor sport championship because it is the championship that is connected to the industry."

I like Agag's bullish approach. They have been very aggressive in their approach to promoting the sport. That being said, there are several gimmicks in FE, like the fanboost, that I find despicable. Makes it look like a damn circus. Furthermore, the cars have a long way to go before they are fast enough to be truly exciting. But I agree they will get there eventually. I still think F1 will get there first.

I would predict it to be more likely that F1 switches to electric engine than FE becoming bigger series. But to make F1 switch all electric is still long way from now because current battery or quick charging technology isn't even close to be good enough.

F1 will likely switch when EV is a valid option. FE was probably a good warning for any series opting to go that route.

they will get more fan interest because they will hire the grid girls. No matter what political correctness dictates attractive members of the opposite sex sells.

You watch a whole race because of the odd chance there will be a woman on the screen at some point? That doesn't make you a race fan, that makes you a weirdo.

Until they let the manufacturers and the teams design the cars (completely) it will remain a spec series for out of work drivers.
Would Ford, Mercedes or VW really be willing (or motivated) to put their money and name on a car designed by someone else and sold, just for the race series.?
Look to Indy Car to see how many manufacturers are interested in doing that. The only branding opportunity in Indy Car is the engine, and if you do too good a job, they will likely ballast away your advantage.

You do know Jaguar and Renault already have teams in Formula E and Mercedes are coming in. Mahindra is one of the biggest names in Electric motors and BMW are sponsors. In the name of technological progression manufacturers will get involved. NOTHING develops tech faster than racing
