Red Bull has airbrushed a key detail out of photographs of its new 2018 car. That is the claim of Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, who said the team's interim black and blue launch livery is also an attempt to "camouflage" secrets.
Dr Helmut Marko said days ago that while Adrian Newey may no longer be "100 per cent" involved, he is now "close to it" after sensing that Mercedes and Ferrari are beatable. So it is with great interest that Red Bull airbrushed out of both studio and track photos a horizontal detail emerging from the sidepods of the new car.
"The key question is why Red Bull does not want to show only that detail," Auto Motor und Sport wondered. "It's not a new concept," editor Michael Schmidt said. "Teams took the idea from Ferrari. McLaren apparently questioned it because it was against the spirit of the regulations." (GMM)

Well duh! Their interim livery is an attempt to camouflage secrets!? You don't say? And have the pictures been tampered with, really? I never would have guessed! Just look at the launch pictures of all teams, clearly they're trying to hide specific details. The team that has been the most forthcoming in that regard is probably Sauber so far.

Agreed. One can really question the point of these "launches" since all most teams do is release a few airbrushed dark photos showing very little other than "a" car (and if we're lucky a photo of Cyril).

I feel like this year the launches have been the worst ever. I'm ok with cutting costs and going digital, but why do pictures have to be so dark, so few, poorly lit?

I wish there had been more of a "show" around it. Something a bit more eye catching. But of course, that'd probably be to "Americanize" F1... Ecclestone hugging finslapping Psychophants...

@Calle, yeah, but a show also needs to be kept within certain limits as well. I mean, I can do without a launch like the 1997 McLaren launch where the Spice Girls were invited.

Naturally, it doesnt have to be that kinda thing, but it can sure be done better than this.
