Valtteri Bottas says that the halo does not obstruct the driver's view as much as the cameras suggest. This week in Barcelona, a couple of visor cam clips were released, showing the driver's viewpoint of the circuit.
The halo is quite clearly visible in these snippets, but Bottas says it is not as bad as it looks. One issue many fans have raised is that drivers may not be able to see the start lights, but Bottas says that he has had no such problems while testing the device in the simulator.
"We’ve done some testing examples inside the simulator where the halo is identical on many different circuits and it was no problem on any circuit for [seeing] the start lights," Bottas said. "You can always see them with one eye and that’s enough.
"Otherwise in the car when you are sitting there you only see the centre pillar and a small part of the wider one but you are not looking there anyway. It’s straight ahead. It’s a small thing in the middle and that’s it, I’m completely used to it and it’s fine.
"It took a little bit of time to get used to it but its ok. It’s not been disturbing anything and there’s been some footage I’ve seen with the visor cam and it doesn’t really look like how we see it from the inside. We only see what’s forward and the small central things."

That seems to be the general consensus, which is nice. But I do hope they will make the design prettier for next year.

Paint the halo in the drivers (country) colors, is an idea I have heard lately.... that would be really helpful, since it is harder to see the helmet now

Its a nice idea. Not sure how pretty it would be though.
