Red Bull has Carlos Sainz waiting in the wings if talks with Daniel Ricciardo break down. That is the warning made by team boss Christian Horner, amid reports Red Bull has set Australian Ricciardo a deadline to commit to Red Bull beyond 2018.
"Our intention is to have him with us in the future," Horner told CNN. "But if that isn't possible, we have other good alternatives. We have good drivers in the junior programme and although he's with Renault now, we still have Carlos Sainz under contract," he added.
Horner also said Lewis Hamilton might be an outside chance for a Red Bull seat. "Lewis' contract also expires," he said. "It's hard to see him leaving Mercedes, but we never say never." (GMM)

A typical "Politician's" answer, nothing defined , covers his ass. I would rather see Jr. and Hulk together for three more years at Renault and let Christian fish the Red Bull(shit) juniors pond.

That way Dr.Helmuttonhead can take the credit for justifying Christian's salary.

Well, thats business people for you. Some even believe we dont notice them... Its equally adorable every time. Tis almost so cute that I've multiple times wanted to grab Abiteboul and Randy Pitchford (CEO for game publisher Gearbox) by the cheeks and say "oh you" when they've blubbered out yet another nonsensical sentence.

If Hulk not outperform Sainz and gets a podium this year he will for sure not be retained again. He was never their first choice but it will be interesting to follow.

Don't worry: Hülkenberg will outperform Sainz jr. definitively. Carlos' just not good enough.

Sainz is good. Is he Ricciardo good? 2018 will answer. But, he is not Verstappen good, Redbull knew it in 2016.

Except we dont know if he is Verstappen good. For all we know, Red Bull had two equally good drivers, and just plucked a stick.

He's not Verstappen good. Too inconsistent and prone to mistakes. Still needs to improve to be worthy of redbull drive hence he's parked at Renault. If Ricciardo stays he won't get Redbull drive.

I like Sainz, don't really care for Red Bull or their driver policy. I hope Sainz manages to secure that Renault seat properly and get away from the clutches of Helmut.

the Hulk will probably outshine and outrace Sainz again this season.
the most underrated driver on the grid is nico hulkenberg.
Red Bull would be better off selling the SAinz contract and inserting another development driver or just retaining Riccardo.
