After a dry opening day of running at Albert Park, the rain has arrived for Saturday. All through the week, it was looking likely that the second day of running could be affected by wet conditions, which has since turned true.
The third and final practice session will be wet, however it remains to be seen on whether the rain will stick around for the maiden qualifying session of the season. More rain is expected though, with a chance of it being quite in heavy in certain parts of South Australia.
The threat of rain will also linger around for race day, but it has more of a chance of being dry. While the first qualifying session of the year is usually used to scope out the pecking order, a wet session could majorly disrupt that and shake up the grid.
Following the opening day of practice on Friday, it was Mercedes who set the benchmark. However, four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was left excited by how close Ferrari and Red Bull appeared to be. Daniel Ricciardo will also drop three places on Sunday's grid after being found guilty of speeding under a red flag during FP2.
