Formula 1 has confirmed that its new streaming service, F1 TV, will be launched before the Spanish Grand Prix in May. The race around the Circuit de Catalunya hosts the fifth round of the 2018 Formula 1 world championship.

Throughout 2017, F1's new owners Liberty Media discussed its plans to introduce an over-the-top streaming service for fans. The service will be available in a number of countries, with pricing offered on an annual basis of $70-$150, monthly rates ranging from $8-12.

Leading streaming services NBC Playmaker, iStreamPlanet, CSG, and Ostmodern will join Tata in delivering the service for F1 fans around the world. All race sessions throughout the weekend will be available to stream, as well as support the series' Formula 2, GP3 and Porsche Supercup.

"There is tremendous opportunity in the OTT space to provide F1’s avid fans with a unique F1 viewing experience across all devices," said Frank Arthofer, F1's Director of Digtal and New Business. "With this launch, fans will find an easy to use streaming experience, rich with live and on-demand content available only on F1 TV, all at a great price."

  • I am very excited about this, but they need to manage expectations better. I think everyone expected the product to be ready by the beginning of the season. Also, they need to get their act together on the graphics. Three consecutive weekends with similar problems.
