Max Verstappen says he is putting the Chinese grand prix firmly in the past. The Dutchman has been slammed in the media ever since running into championship leader Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari in Shanghai last weekend.

"It was not my best race, but I don't have to think about it anymore," he told Dutch media at an event at Zandvoort. "I've learned from it and I'm looking forward."

Some criticised the 20-year-old's immaturity, aggression and even intellect after China, but Verstappen says he is able to learn. "I will not be less aggressive, but I will look at a situation better," he said.

And Verstappen said he will not listen to critics but instead people he trusts, like his father Jos and boss Dr Helmut Marko. "These are people who know about it and understand how it works. I do not need a psychologist," he insisted. "Do I sleep well? I always sleep well."

"I should have done it differently, but if you were to know everything in advance, you could change the entire world. At some point you have to look ahead, so I'm looking ahead to Baku," said Verstappen. (GMM)

  • Ok, he was a ****head in the race, but let's move on, no reason to rehash this over and over.

  • Talk about massive overreactions... Max has had a dreadful start of the season and he knows it. But he is still a superstar in the making, no doubt about it. I am also sure this is not the last time he will be involved in controversy this year, which I think is fantastic for the sport. But could we please stop talking about his mental state or whatever the hell journos sell us to keep re-hashing this non-news.

  • I'm surprised how much bad comments arise just after one race this season. Every time any driver has one bad race he is being crucified. It happened to Bottas after AUS spin, HAM and VER after China. I'm really tired of that great stories which ended up in garbage after another great race what I trully wish to Lewis and Max.

    • Welcome to media nowadays. Mind, I think most are sorta okay about it, however Sky and La Gazzetta are to keen at getting relevant again that they desperately come up with anything hysteric just to sell.

  • Now the other drivers can mess with his head. They smell blood in the water knowing he's going to be second guessing himself.

  • Yeah, lets get on with this shit. Having a shrink isnt all that bad (aint for me, but whatever floats your boat), but he doesnt need one just because he has been driving aggressively. He needs to cool off, he know that, lets sit back and see how he'll fare from now on.

  • He did a lot of accidents in F1, but why is this continuous banter regarding the last one?
