McLaren has confirmed that it will run three drivers over the two-day in-season Barcelona test. The Woking squad will be running two cars, as it will not only be testing its own MCL33, but also testing tyres for Formula 1's supplier Pirelli.

For McLaren's test, it will be working with full-time driver Stoffel Vandoorne and reserve driver Lando Norris. Vandoorne will handle driving duties on the first day of running, while Norris will take over on the second day.

However, Norris won't have to wait until the second day to get some driving done, as he will take the other car out onto the track while testing for Pirelli on day one. The second and final day of Pirelli testing will be done by one of McLaren's test and development drivers, Oliver Turvey.

Norris is currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 championship. After four races in the 2018 season, he leads the standings with one race victory. Turvey races in Formula E, and has done since 2015, picking up his first podium in the series earlier this season

I would imagine with Alonso's schedule, his seat would be open to all testing duties this season.

He probably spends too much time in the simulator.
Will be fascinating to see how he does this year. My bet is he will do well.

  • It will be interesting to get a direct comparison between Lando and Stoffel, who hasn't looked too hot next to Alonso the last couple of years.
