Lewis Hamilton says that Mercedes can't rely on 'weird' races to bring victories in 2018. Last time out in Azerbaijan, Hamilton won his first race of the season, and his first since becoming a four-time world champion at Mexico last year.

The chaotic race saw Hamilton inherit the lead towards the end of the race after teammate Valtteri Bottas retired after picking up a puncture. Now holding the lead in the driver's championship, Hamilton has admitted that Mercedes needs to unlock more pace to battle Ferrari.

"There’s two weird races which have kept us within the mix but you can’t rely on those for the 17 or however many are left,” he said. "We need ultimate performance and confidence in the car. We’ve got the pace within me, the car has got the pace within it but we’re not unlocking it… we’ve definitely got to improve in lots of areas."

Hamilton's rival Sebastian Vettel says that he's not worried after dropping into second place in the driver's standings: "I’m not worried at all,” he said. "The most important thing is that we have a good car to work with in qualifying. If we’re in front, we can win because our race pace is good."

    • By the way: I would love to have a list of teams and engine suppliers who will bring upgrades to Spain *nudge nudge wink wink*.

Doesn’t your heart bleed for Hammy, poor chap has lost being outright dominant and will have to fight for points instead of ghosting around on his own. Ha ha, let the fun continue.
