Alonso not sure about next racing step

Fernando Alonso says he is not finished with formula 1 -  even though he admits he is not sure what will happen next. Next weekend, the Spaniard will race at Le Mans, amid rumours he will then switch full-time to Indycar for 2019.

And he is constantly hinting that he is getting bored with F1: "No, I'm not bored," the McLaren driver insisted in Montreal. Formula 1 is the top class and we all dreamed of being here when we started in karting.

"The truth is that in recent years, the results have become predictable. Canada is only the seventh race of 21, but we know perfectly well what will happen in the next 14. That's sad for the sport," Alonso added.

Alonso insisted, however, that he still loves racing, and "Last year I signed a multi-year contract". And when asked if he will follow up his Le Mans tilt next weekend with another Indy 500 bid next year, he answered: "Probably not. I've hardly thought about it.

"I know the team is considering many different options, since the North American market is important for McLaren. Let's see how events will develop."

Alonso passes the 300 race mark this weekend in Canada, which is just a season short of Rubens Barrichello's record: "When Rubens did that I thought that's a record for eternity," he smiled. "I never thought I'd get close. Will I still be here next year? Who knows."

  • The choice is easy: go with McLaren or some other midfield team, or leave.

  • Toto say's he's a racer.. if that was true, he'd sign Alonso up with Lewis and regardless who won the title, it would be one amazing season! ...but he utterly lacks the balls and would rather have Bottas as Lewis's 'bitch'.
    tsk.. shame on you

    • If hes a racer, he wouldnt have uttered team orders for a guy that isnt really in his team as of present anyway, so the claim falls at the first hinder, long before the Alonso vs Hammy is even to be considered. He is just a businessman, like all of the other businessmen groping F1. And to quote Ted Mosby: Im not angry, Im just disappointed.

    • I can completely understand why they don't want Alonso back. It's not just a 'racer' thing because Alonso has a lot of baggage. But it would be incredible to have those two together again. In my opinion the best two drivers on the grid. It would be absurdly expensive, it might massively disturb the peace at Mercedes, but man... would I be watching closely. It would be a marketing lovefest having those two in one team.

    • Yeah, those would be some hefty salaries. And dear lord, imagine having BOTH Hammy and Alonso in one team. If it was bad with Rosberg, imagine the team when Diva Number 1 enter the fray. Yeah, there'd be plenty of marketing opportunities, but there'd also be utter chaos within the team.

If the rumors are true, it is Hamilton's high demands on his salary that is holding up negotiations. If i was Alonso, having made all those millions already, I'd go to mercedes ad offer my services for a dollar.

    • Same, but that aint Alonso's way. He is far too spoiled for that.
