Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey admits that having Michael Schumacher's son Mick racing in motorsport's pinnacle would be "special". The 19-year-old currently competes in the FIA European Formula 3 championship, sitting eighth in the standings.

The German picked up his first win in the series last week at Spa-Francorchamps - the same circuit that his seven-time F1 champion father took his first F1 victory at in 1992. And Carey says that having the name Schumacher back in F1 would be special.

"That would be a great story, of course," Carey told BILD.  "Michael Schumacher still plays a unique role in Formula 1 as a world champion. He is and will remain an icon of our sport.

"Regardless of this, we want to try to make it easier for good young drivers to make the transition to Formula 1.  Michael's son Mick in F1 would be special, of course. He would touch the hearts of many fans in a very unique way."

Schumacher races for Prema, who has strong ties in the motorsport world. Recent graduates from the team include Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, who are all making a name for themselves in F1 currently.

  • It would, but Mick isnt Michael, and we and F1 need to realize that. It isnt fair to hold Mick or anyone really to his father's standards. The dude was a legend.
