Stroll admits he's not a "huge fan" of Spa circuit

Lance Stroll has admitted that he is not a huge fan of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which will host the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend. The Canadian has plenty of experience at the 7.004 km track, winning a Formula 3 European championship race there in 2016. 

At last year's Grand Prix, Stroll crossed the line in P11. The circuit is viewed as a favourite for many of the drivers, but Stroll admits that he has never really clicked with its layout: "I have never really been a huge fan of this track as it has never clicked for me, although I appreciate that many drivers do love it. 

"However, it is my second home race, as my mother was born in Belgium, so it does have a special meaning for me. It is a long lap with some amazing sections and the weather can play an important part - it can change in a second with rain on one side of the circuit and the other side dry, and then anything can happen. It also has a lot of history and I know the fans always enjoy it, whatever the weather!"

Williams has endured a torrid 2018 season so far, collecting just four points in the opening 12 races. Hanging at the bottom of the standings, the team will be hoping for a boost in the second half of the season. Previewing the weekend, Sergey Sirotkin states that he finds the circuit exciting to drive.

"Spa is one of the biggest races in the F1 championship, one which everyone is looking forward to racing at," he said. "With the current cars and track safety evolution, it has become much less risky and challenging for the drivers, but it is still an exciting track. It’s a great location and after the summer break, it will be nice to come back fresh and race at such a great circuit!"
