Stoffel Vandoorne and Carlos Sainz will start at the back of the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix after taking fresh power units post-qualifying. Both drivers dropped out of Q1 on Saturday, with Vandoorne being the slowest of the runners.

However, he was set to move up two positions as Valtteri Bottas and Nico Hulkenberg were already confirmed to be taking penalties. As Vandoorne was out-qualified by the two aforementioned drivers on Saturday, they will start ahead of the Belgian at his home race.

Carlos Sainz will also line-up on the back row of the grid following a full power unit change. The Renault driver struggled throughout qualifying, stating that he had no grip throughout the session. Renault decided to take the hit of three grid drops and hope that a fresh power unit will have an advantage when coming back through the field.

  • Its the only sensible thing to do, the two will start at the back anyway. And I dont think they will be able to do much this race anyway, so might aswell take the hit and hope for longterm benefits. Unless its raining... And I sorta hope it does, because man, I do love me some rainy Spas.
