Robert Kubica says that he hopes Williams decides on its 2019 line-up sooner rather than later to avoid a long wait of not knowing what will happen. The Pole is in the frame for a race seat for next year, but faces competition from Sergey Sirotkin and Esteban Ocon.

Kubica was a contender for a 2018 seat at Williams, which eventually went to Sirotkin. The Grove squad spent much of the winter evaluating the two drivers before opting to go with Sirotkin, putting pen to paper in January earlier this year.

But Kubica is not willing to wait as long this time around to solidify his 2019 plans: "Time is running, I don’t want to wait like last year, hopefully we will get a decision earlier than it was [in 2018],” Kubica told Sky Sports. “The target will be to be on the grid next year but as I said I cannot wait until December.

"The team is evaluating different scenarios as they are right to do and I am doing all on my side if there will be a common agreement or not but I focus on seeing also other opportunities. I don’t want to find out myself in December or whenever it will be, it’s too late, and having nothing.”

Despite missing out on the race seat for 2018, Kubica was hired as Williams' test and reserve driver. He has taken part in two free practice one sessions this year and is set to return to the cockpit once again in Abu Dhabi for FP1 at the final round of the season.
