Esteban Ocon has received three penalty points on his super license following his collision with Max Verstappen during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The two came together as Ocon was attempting to un-lap himself from race leader Verstappen.

Ocon went around the outside at Turn 1, which became the inside at Turn 2. As Verstappen turned in, he made contact with Ocon's front left tyre and was sent in a spin which allowed Lewis Hamilton to come through and re-take the lead of the race.

The driver of car 31 (Esteban Ocon) was a lapped car. The stewards noted that he had new Super Soft tyres. Ocon attempted a pass on the leader, car 33 (Max Verstappen) to un-lap himself at the outside of turn one," read a statement from the stewards.

“The stewards determined that he failed to complete the pass at turn one, and as a lapped car, fought the leader for track position, causing the collision at turn two with the race leader.”

  • I think the penalty is fair because he was messing with the race leader. However, Max made the mistake of driving very aggressively against a guy who had much less to lose than himself. It was at best a racing incident as Ocon was there the entire time. It will be another valuable lesson for Max who continues to impress me with his driving.

Shit happens, Desperate drivers at the end of the season, he was nowhere near the front of Verstappen, Love the drama, it's like the old days. So much more fun to watch !!

You won't get that anymore with drivers like Ocon, Their political correctness is to see by everyone. He did this kind of thing in F3 also were he tried to drive Verstappen of the circuit. He got punished for it at that time but Ocon hasn't learned from his previous mistakes. Even brundle says that he misses the sorting out of issues like Max did.

    • Come on Boudy... what Ocon did wasn't correct, but it's the exact move that Verstappen would have pulled in a reverse scenario; and that's fine with me. I just disagree with the tone some have adopted of speaking of "victims" and "victimizers." I do agree that all it does is enrich the F1 show. I hope Abu Dhabi delivers too. We'll have several drivers who need not care about penalty points because they won't be around next year. All championships are settled. Should be a proper race. No long term planning. Just win.

    • Maybe Gasly had a point then, and it wasnt just toxic trashtalk? But yes, I am disappointed in Ocon, considering I generally rate him pretty highly even after Monaco this year, but this wasnt a good show. But it doesnt excuse b***hfights on behalf of Max. Be annoyed, hell be fuming, but anything more than a sharp comment is sadly another reason for why I'll have a hard time cheering for Max despite me being a fan of Red Bull as a team and recognizing his skills.
