Louis Deltraz believes that he is a serious option for the Haas Formula 1 team going forward. The American outfit confirmed earlier this month that the Swiss driver would get into the cockpit of the VF-18 at the post-season Abu Dhabi test.
The 21-year-old has competed in Formula 2 since 2017, picking up two podiums. Although his plans for 2019 are not solid, Deletraz believes that Haas sees potential in him and that he could become a serious option for them in the coming seasons.
"I think they like the challenge, and they see potential in me, they are happy to test me and to see the result and where we can go after that," he said. "I think Haas has a really good car, they are one of the first teams outside of the top three, so it’s something we’ve worked on for a while. The key thing here is I have 42 super license points, so I am available for it. To validate that you have to do an F1 test."
The post-season test is held by Pirelli and gives the chance for young drivers to gain experience. Deletraz highlighted the importance of the test, stating that its a good chance to show the team that he is capable of much more than simply driving.
“The main focus will be for me to learn the processes of F1 and the car and to be as quick as possible so that when I am in the car I will be able to be quick and give proper feedback. It’s a 2019 tyre test so it’s not only about me but about the team," Deletraz said.
