Pirelli is hoping to take their 18-inch tyres that will be used from 2021 onwards out onto the circuit for the first time sometime this year. The tyres are being introduced as part of a wider range of regulations, including revamping the engine and aerodynamic rules.
Last year, Pirelli was confirmed to be Formula 1's official tyre supplier until the end of the 2023 season. As part of the deal, it will introduce the bigger tyres for the 2021 season, which will mark its 11th year in the sport.
According to RaceFans, Pirelli is aiming to start testing on the 18-inch tyres in the second half of 2019. However, complications are already present as it needs to find a suitable car to test with, as the engine and aero regulations for 2021 are still not confirmed.
At its research facility in Milan, it will start to conduct tests on its 2021 rubber in order to develop and optimise the potential for the season.

Mostly just cosmetic reasons.
