Monza deal beyond 2019 still 'far away'

A deal between Monza and Liberty Media is still far from being reached according to the Italian Grand Prix boss Angelo Sticchi Damiani. However, the Italian affirmed that a deal can be struck between the circuit and Formula 1's commercial rights holder.
Monza's current deal to host the Italian Grand Prix expires after the 2019 event. The track has hosted a world championship race every year bar 1950 bar once in 1980, when Imola was the home of the race.
Although the deal is still far from being penned, Damiani is confident that a renewal is on the way: "A renewal is far away but we are confident that a solution can be found in everyone's interests.
"As Monza is keen to host F1, so too is it important for F1 to have Monza," he added. For the 2019 edition we will pay $24 million, a very high price. We want to continue, but only in an economically sustainable framework. We cannot put the ACI's (Automobile Club d’Italia) budgets at risk."
Monza is one of five circuits that doesn't have a contract in place beyond the 2019 season, with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Spain), Silverstone (Great Britain), Hockenheim (Germany) and Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexico) the other events in danger of dropping off the calendar.

F1 without a race in Italy would be criminal. The core roots of European racing must be preserved otherwise what's it all for? Wow, a win in timbucktu - now there's a race that's gonna look good on the CV........ Liberty have some reality checking to do, make it affordable to even stage the event is a pre-cursor, no-one wants to see any more races with 30 people in the main stand.

Monza is one of the better tracks on the calendar, so thats a track they kinda need to keep alive.

I blame Italy, this has been an issue for a while. People obviously show up in droves. Everyone wants the race to take place, but somehow politicians and promotors can sort it out.

Oh yes, Italy and Ecclestone are both very guilty in putting Mobza where it is today.

Does a track attract $24 Mil over a Grand prix weekend? including ticket sales and advertisements? If Monza can't, very few other *independent* tracks could boast of it.
