Pirelli has revealed what it estimates to be the time delta gaps between each compound in 2019.

For the upcoming season, the Italian manufacturer has introduced a revised range of compounds. It has cut its range of dry tyres from seven to five, labelling them C1 through to C5.

At Grand Prix weekends, the tyres will be referred to as 'soft', 'medium', and 'hard', regardless of what combination of compounds Pirelli decides to bring. In Barcelona, teams have been testing with the new compounds, while Pirelli collects data for the season ahead.

On Thursday, Pirelli's head of motorsport Mario Isola notified media of what it believes is the time delta between each compound.

C1 → C2 0.8 - 1.0 seconds
C2 → C3 0.7 seconds
C3 → C4 0.6 seconds
C4 → C5 0.6 seconds

Isola says that the projected gaps were what they expected for the season ahead.

"The track is not very long, so 0.7s is a good number considering that the target was 0.8s and 0.9s," he said. "So on a longer track that could happen.

"Plus the C5 is not the compound for this circuit, so the C5 struggles a little bit to guarantee a very fast lap. Also, one lap is difficult to achieve with the C5 in Barcelona, considering the circuit is more aggressive and the tarmac is rougher than one year ago."

  • Unless ferrari did vanity lap with C3, and Merc did their fastest lap on a tank full, Ferrari clearly has gained a margin of 0.2 - 0.4 sec, based on what merc. revealed so far.
