Mick Schumacher is close to securing his first official F1 outing as Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur confirmed the team is in talks over a test drive with Schumacher.
The test in question regards one of the in-season sessions that F1 hosts throughout the year. The dates and venues have not yet been confirmed, however, Vasseur stated that he will talk with Ferrari in the coming days to further evaluate the situation.
"We don't know yet," he said. "We are discussing it, and it's on the table. It's a bit early but we will discuss things this week with Ferrari what we can do. We have so many clashes with all the series now that it is difficult.
When pressed on if he thought Schumacher was ready, Vasseur said: "To do the rookie test, for sure.
"For a race, we will see after the rookie test, if it happens. We have to do it step by step. He has the 40 [superlisnce] points. Now we don't have so many people with the 40 points, some of them are doing Formula E, WEC, and sometimes you have clashes."
This year, Schumacher will take part in the FIA Formula 2 championship with Prema alongside Sean Gelael. The German graduates to the series after winning the 2018 European Formula 3 championship.

Since Ericsson signed with Schmidt Peterson, he has said that there is little point in staying on as 3rd driver for Alfa. I wouldn't be surprised if Schumacher is being groomed for that role.

Could be. It's also a way for the Ferrari to ease him into F1 without too much pressure or expectation in the beginning of his F1 career.
