Ferrari has confirmed that it will not run Mission Winnow logos on its car at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix later this month.

Following the conclusion of the winter tests last week, the Italian squad confirmed that it would drop 'Misson Winnow' from its entry name that appeared on the original FIA entry list for the 2019 Formula 1 season,

Mission Winnow is an initiative that was launched prior to the Japanese Grand Prix last year between Ferrari and Philip Morris International (PMI). PMI has repeatedly denied any connection with its tobacco brand, amid strict tobacco advertising laws.

Ferrari can revert to 'Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow' for the Bahrain Grand Prix, as under the F1 regulations, teams must give the FIA seven days’ notice of any changes to their entry

Health departments in Australia and Europe expressed concern over Mission Winnow, due to the tight regulations on tobacco advertising.

In place of the logos, Ferrari says that it will feature “a surprise for the fans instead”.

  • Another well-written article. It could however be prudent to mention the link between Phil Morris and e.g Marlboro for readers that aren't clued into which tobacco brands PMI own. :)
