Head returns to Williams in consultant role

Sir Patrick Head has returned to the Williams Formula 1 team as an expert consultant amid its difficulties so far in 2019.

The Grove squad is the clear backmarker this season, and is lacking roughly over a second in pace to its nearest rival. Head, who helped Sir Frank Williams establish the team in the late 70s, has remained a shareholder despite leaving the team earlier this decade.

Head stepped down as Williams' technical director in 2012, after holding the position for 27 years. Williams confirmed that "Head is currently offering some support to our engineering team on a short-term consultancy basis.” 

Williams last won a race at the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, and took a handful of podiums throughout the turbo hybrid era.

However after a difficult 2018 season saw it slump to the bottom of the standings, it looks set for the same feat this year.

Prior to the start of the season, Williams' chief technical officer Paddy Lowe took a leave of absence after a troubling start to the year saw it arrive in Barcelona for testing two days late.
