Sergio Perez says that the owner of the Racing Point team, Lawrence Stroll, is the "most motivated person in the garage" and that he is surprised at how energised he is to move the team up the grid.

Stroll, the Canadian business magnate and father of Perez' teammate Lance, stepped in and rescued the team formerly known as Force India when they went into administration last year. He and his investors have already put many millions into the team, by hiring new staff members and moving forward with the plan to construct a new factory later this year.

The Mexican driver has also made clear that from his experience, Stroll is very serious about Racing Point and is determined to make the most of his investment.

"He's very enthusiastic, he's probably the most motivated person we have in the garage right now," Perez said on the Beyond the Grid Podcast.

"He says that this is a project that has motivated him the most in his whole life, it's the project that gets him up at six in the morning and he's flat out trying to go through everything.

"He's pushing the team very very hard, but at the same time he's letting Otmar [Szafnauer, team principal] and the big boys do their job, but we are all aware that we have to get the results sooner rather than later. He loves racing, I'm surprised with his energy and how much he wants his team to be successful."

The hiring of Lance Stroll, however, caused a bit of controversy, as people accused the young Canadian of buying his way into the seat.

People are also questioning what effects this will have on Perez, and whether preferential treatment would be given to his teammate. When asked, he responded: "No, I feel so much part of this team, of this family. We are all in the same boat. We want to bring the team forward.

"We are not where we want to be at the moment. It's about bringing the team forward and I don't see that [favouristism] happening in my case to be honest.

"Up to now, everything has been transparent, everything has been as before. We are all very excited and so much looking forward to this new project."

    • I think that it will be a failure if Racing Point doesn't get better. Force India's story has been incredible. It has impressed me more than any other team, yes even more than Mercedes these last few years. In my hopeful heart, Force India simply needed funding to be fighting Red Bull. Now they have funding, so I am expecting big things
