Kvyat calls for the end of Friday running

Daniil Kvyat believes that Formula 1 should get rid of its Friday practice sessions to make weekends more unpredictable.

Teams currently have three hours of green flag running on a Friday, which allows them to collect data and information for the qualifying and race sessions.

Last time out in Baku, FP1 was cancelled when George Russell ran over a loose drain cover, which resulted in a loss of track time for all teams.

Kvyat thinks that F1 should adopt less running to make the events more exciting, but admits that every driver's way of preparing is different.

"Maybe we need to just come on the track on Saturday," said the Toro Rosso driver. "That's it. Honestly we are so up [to knowledge] on all the tracks we know.

"I think we need to allow extra time on new tracks, like it's going to be Vietnam or something, maybe, but I don't know.

"It's up to F1 people to decide, what is best and what is not. Every driver is different. Someone needs maybe five hours. But not me."

With new tracks and more races in the year set to be introduced in the future, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner supports the idea.

"I think it depends on how many races we end up with," he said. "If we end up with more races, we arguably do need to condense the time.

"We saw that one session worked well enough on Friday [in Baku], so maybe just one good session is the way to go. Then parts and people can turn up a little bit later and one session is enough for the weekend."

  • I'm honestly not sure which field it'd hurt the most to ditch fridays. I think the top field have enough parts and money to manage without fridays, but I also kinda lean on a weekend without fridays maybe being cheaper for the smaller teams who might not have new parts to test anyway.

In my opinion they should make this optional for teams to test of Friday's. If some teams don't want to test on Friday's they will definitely save of spare parts but then maybe loose out a lil bit on analysis and car set ups. Or they should use it to test new part or potential upgrades.
