The Renault Formula 1 team has revamped its senior management as it continues to focus on returning to the front of the grid.

The changes have occurred at both Renault's factories at Enstone and Viry, where the chassis and power unit are developed respectively.

At Viry, Christophe Mary will join Renault as its director of engineering, departing from his role as PSA Motorsport's chief systems and powertrain engineer.

Stephane Rodriguez has been appointed to the role of Renault's project and purchasing director. Both men will report to Renault's engine technical director Remi Taffin.

On the chassis side of operations, Matt Harman has been promoted to the team's engineering director, having previously worked as Renault's deputy chief designer. Harman will report to chassis boss Nick Chester.

The changes have been made by Renault to “reinforce its management and strengthen its technical departments” adding “beyond their impact on the 2019 and 2020 seasons, these changes are a significant step towards preparing both organisations (engine and chassis) to the challenges of the 2021 season and meeting the objectives of the roadmap set in 2016”.

Renault has struggled so far in 2019, as it sits seventh in the constructors' standings after the first four races of the season.

  • I give them that, they seem committed. For now. Renault have on several occations proven that their intrepretation of "longterm" can differ from the rest of us, but I think they are attacking this problem at the right place. The ingredients are there, they just need to get a few new chefs in. And ditch Abiteboul.
