Lewis Hamilton stayed ahead of the pack after the second practice session at Monaco, as Mercedes stretched its gap over the rest of the field.

Hamilton's fastest time read a 1:11.118, with the second Silver Arrow of Valtteri Bottas only less than one-tenth of a second down on Hamilton's lap.

Hamilton was one of the drivers that took to the runoff area during the session, as he locked up into the first corner.

Mercedes' gap to the rest of the pack read over seven-tenths of a second, as Sebastian Vettel was the next best car. His teammate Charles Leclerc was only tenth, 1.2 seconds down on Hamilton.

Vettel just avoided hit the barrier at Turn 1 towards the end of the session, as he locked up while turning him, however he just got the car stopped before hitting the wall with his front wing.

Pierre Gasly was the leading Red Bull, as Max Verstappen suffered from car issues during the session. The Dutchman attempted a qualifying run in the final minutes, but was not happy with the balance of his RB15.

Alexander Albon ended in an impressive fifth for Toro Rosso, one position ahead of Verstappen.

Kevin Magnussen, who was eighth in this morning's session, managed to go one position higher in the afternoon, as he was seventh on the timesheets.

The Alfa Romeo pair both got inside the top ten, with Antonio Giovianzzi leading his teammate Kimi Raikkonen for eighth place.

Charles Leclerc rounded out the top ten, with the local favourite just under a tenth faster than Romain Grosjean and Lando Norris in 11th and 12th respectively.

Racing Point and Renault struggle

While the session was far from easy for most drivers, Racing Point and Renault didn't impress on the timesheets.

Renault, who looked to have healthy pace this morning during the opening practice session, could only manage the 16th and 17th fastest times, with Nico Hulkenberg marginally quicker than teammate Daniel Ricciardo.

Lance Stroll in the Racing Point was only faster than the two Williams', while Sergio Perez was 15th, ahead of both Renaults.
